Upon hearing the news of the devastating tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri in late May, 2011, speaker David Gonzalez, quickly began developing plans to travel to the disaster area the following week. His mission: to lend a helping hand and use his storytelling, music therapy, and motivational speaking skills before families, and especially children who had experienced the tragic event and were living its aftermath displaced and in shelters.

The images are a gallery of the journey of one man and his contribution, like that of many Americans, to the relief effort in Joplin.
