Sallie Salinas is the Director of the Institute for Women Entrepreneurs ( IWE) and she willingly offers all her knowledge and experience to hundreds of interested women trying to achieve their independence through their own business, so they may fulfill their financial dreams in the most predictable and structured manner.
A southern California native, Sallie Salinas, credits her mother’s genes and example for a good work ethic, compassion, drive, and a joy for living. Her early school years made the Latina keynote speaker realize she was part of two cultures and two worlds, a quality she felt made her unique and not different.
Though she was shy, her mother entered her in every possible contest and she did it so she would learn to deal with her timidity. During those years she was named Student of the Month, Homecoming Princess, Miss Charm, Miss Flame, Freshman Princess and many other titles.
Well known today as an advocate of women, Salinas displayed an inclination towards the business from a young age and was determined to break down stereotypes she found in her path, demonstrating that it was possible to reach all the goals she set for herself. While working at Winchell’s Donuts, she began a business with leftover donut dough her employer gave her and she found sales opportunities in her high school years as well.
After attending Santa Ana College, she pursued studies in Human Services with an emphasis on Business at Cal State Fullerton. While holding a full time and part time job, Sallie Salinas conquered her university degree. As she and her husband awaited the arrival of their son, and while still studying at Cal State Fullerton, Salinas decided to start an interpreting business from home working for a large oil refinery so she could be with her so. A business in the automobile industry in the department of manufacturing would follow and from a young age, her son also became involved in her entrepreneurial life, initially by designing her business flyers.
As the Director of the Institute for Women Entrepreneurs (IWE) at Santa Ana College, Sallie Salinas led the first and only center for women entrepreneurs in Orange County. The Institute is an economic development program that offers services dedicated to women entrepreneurs, regardless of what phase they are in regarding their business.
In her presentations, Sallie Salinas offers all her knowledge and experience through success and business missteps to women attempting their financial independence through their businesses, so they might make their dreams a financial reality, doing it in a way that is structured and predictable.
In its initial three years of operations, IWE trained more than 5000 entrepreneurs (men and women) and had 400 members and 58 businesses started up. Sallie Salinas credits the success of IWE to its complete services that directly reflect her years of experience as a business owner, knowing what women need in order to succeed.
