A celebrity speaker and emcee, Susanne Ramirez de Arellano, has blazed a path for young Latinas seeking to enter the world of broadcasting. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Susanne Ramirez de Arellano obtained a B.A. from Tufts University in International Relations; a first Masters in Journalism from Boston University, and a second Masters in Economics from London School of Economics.
Ramirez de Arellano began her media career working for United Press International and became the first female bureau chief for UPI in El Salvador, where she covered the end of the civil war. Ramirez de Arellano then worked for ABC News as an assignment editor on the Foreign Desk - working with World News Tonight, Nightline and the morning shows.
Later on, Latina media speaker, Susanne Ramirez de Arellano, was recruited by the Associated Press to build Latin American coverage for their television branch – the Associated Press Television News. She worked with APTN for about 10 years and went on to become the News Director for Univision Puerto Rico- running a newsroom of almost 90 people, who produced about 33 hours of news a week. Susanne held this job for four years.
Ramirez de Arellano is now a communications consultant for various clients, including the International Women's Media Foundation and ABC News.
A frequent emcee for galas and national conferences, Susanne Ramirez de Arellano, hosted the 2010 Convention of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and LULAC in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Susanne also works as a career coach for young Hispanic female talent that looks to enter the difficult world of broadcasting.
Ramirez de Arellano participated in the book on journalism, Something to Write Home About and is a character in the book about United Press International, Cables Cruzados.
